Mason entered the 2011-12 Season at the Moeller Super Duals featuring State Caliber squads from Kentucky, Tennessee, and Ohio. Out of the selection of teams, the Comets challenged a quad; conquest was attained against three. The Big Green defeated Louisville Trinity, Dayton Christian, and Wadsworth while going toe-to-toe with Moeller. Two athletes managed to go undefeated, Eoin Walden (152 lbs) and Daniele Tedoldi (285 lbs), while many achieved 3-1 records. The MVP’s were Eoin Walden and Batchuluunm Byambakhuu for their clutch performances. Mason will head to a prestigious Indiana duals classic, held at New Castle Chrysler, next weekend.

In three days, of some of the toughest competition in the country, Mason set a school record for state placers! In past year state tournament action the Comets, at best, able to place a pair. Yet, with the conclusion of the 74th OHSAA State Championship, that number became three. Two seventh place finishes and a bronze put the team in the Top 20 with 26.0 points. In a heated, last three matches, Reuben Victoria-Bojalil managed to seal the best results, by claiming third with a 4-1-0.

The Big Green Machine did not leave Fairfield without a sound. They chose to go with deafening victories, to register ears across Ohio. And, when the sound died down, a record was matched for the second year in succession. Six State Qualifers heading to Columbus, this Thursday! In that District Tournament, of 34 teams, Mason also finished third with 137.5 points beating last year’s score by double digits. In all aspects, this by far, is the best showing by the Comets to date. Out of the six qualifers, two snatched titles. Reuben Victoria-Bojalil achieved the best record with a 4-0-1.

This Friday, when the Comets go to Fairfield, the team will be able to step on the mat. For the First time in school history, the entire lineup qualified for Districts! The team is only one, other than Lakewood St. Edwards, in Ohio Division I to send all 14 wrestlers to the next level! Out of Mason’s qualifying roster, six went for a championship final, in which four claimed a title. The best record of the weekend belonged to Eoin Walden (152 lbs). He compiled a 4-0-2 enroute to a Sectional Title.

For the second year in a row, Mason was able to capture the Greater Miami Conference Title, to begin a streak. This is the also the first time, in over 20 years, the Comets have been victorious in back-to-back league championships. In the competition, of 10 tough teams, Mason sent 12 of 14 to the podium where nine went for the top two. Four claimed GMC titles out of the group with Eoin Walden (152 lbs) showing the best record. He finished with a 4-0-2 to win his class. Overall, the Comets put up 227 points on the board, to seal the deal. Mason will head to the Moeller Sectional next Saturday, February 19.
